stone’s throw

like the rest of the works in the stone’s throw body of work, the paintings were made in conversation with some half carved stones i found in my grandmother’s studio. these works were some of the first paintings i had made in 23 years that included the influence of looking at an object in the world. many of the decisions in the paintings were also derived from the vowel structure of a text by henry moore that i found in my grandmother’s studio as well. while i do follow the scores somewhat tightly, i always make mistakes, and there are certainly many moments where i respond to the chance or indeterminate moves simply intuitively. more than anything, the paintings are the result of a conversation between a fixed score and intuitive respondings.
