this work was created for the skylight at gallery e/static in torino italy. i wanted to create a viewing space with sound for the movement of clouds through a very beautiful skylight in the gallery space.

the physical part of the installation consisted of an elevated platform with speakers on it, that one could climb up onto and lay down upon to view the skylight and the cloud movement beyond it.

the audio was created using a score process i have been working with for the past 10 years called ‘cloud formations’ where i draw the contour lines of a cloud and then use the drawing as a kind of score (in the past mainly as a path of singing notes moving up and down in pitch based on these lines). in this case i transformed the drawing to the neck of an electric guitar and recorded the few notes that followed the cloud path. i then took out the note ‘hits’ and left only the resonances and loped and multiplied the whole thing to a series of drifts. the work was played very softly through two speakers facing each other so that only really audible when one was laying down on the platform facing the skylight.
