the sculptures in the series letter forms are based on images of sound-waves created by speaking or singing the letters of the alphabet into a computer program. these images were then drawn in pencil and constructed into forms using wooden dowels, embroidery thread, glue, enamel paint and polyurethane.

the consonants are all painted a pale blue, while the vowels are colored in relation to rimbaud’s poem ‘the alchemy of the verb’ – black, white, red, blue and green.

a set of spoken vowels were originally shown at the stadtgalerie in saarbrucken germany as part of the resonanzen exhibition. a larger set of sung vowels was shown at gallery e/static in 2004 as part of the solo exhibition cups into clouds, and the entire alphabet was exhibited at the sculpture center in ny in 2004.
