in search of snow was created for the first beyond music festival in 1998 at beyond baroque literary arts center in venice california. the piece was installed in a small closet near the main starcase and consisted of a set of headphones and a “peephole” so that one could see a random series of abstract fluctuations of a black and white television set.

the headphones contained a quiet soundtrack of fluctuating electronic fizzles, clicks and repetitions. this was the first (and only) live analog generative installation i’ve ever made. inside the closet was an old television set whose audio was running through a group of hidden guitar pedals – delay, reverb and distortion – in a subtle feedback loop. the piece was constantly shifting, and always in sync with the flicker of the tv screen.
