50 sounds of the sea was one of the first works i created right out of grad school. it was also one of the first works i created with the idea of limitations. each drawing was made over a period of an hour, while listening to the ocean in total darkness (other than the light of the moon). most importantly i was looking at the ocean, and not at my paper, thus moving my hands in relation to the ocean swells, rather than trying to replicate what i was looking at. it was as if the ocean were a conductor, offering my hands various moves. it was the first work where process was more important than the results.
