silent world, 2002
the silent world paintings are all visual translations of the phrase:
the silent world. they were created using a system of equivalents for
inch measurements and the alphabet - basically the letter a= a 1 inch
line, b=2 inch, c=3 inch, etc. in the case of the first painting, the
text was mapped out in lines going in one direction, then re-mapped starting
backwards with color in the other direction. the phrase 'the silent world'
is the title of the first book by jacques cousteau.
