schindler house, 2001
exhibition: mak center for art and architecture / schindler house, los angeles ca 2001

the schindler house installation was created for the 1922 home/studio of architect r.m. schindler. it consisted of soundscapes that were created using only the sounds recorded during an evening spent at the house.

these initial recordings were transformed electronically to create abstract soundscapes as a kind of reflection of the house and its history.

within the grounds of the house i created three site specific installations. a multi speaker work installed on the front pathway leading to the schindler entrance of the house, a multi speaker work along the base of a small grove of bamboo at the rear of the house; and, a headphone work inside the house, in the hallway facing windows that look out on the central courtyard.
