paintings 'the anatomy of touch'
exhibition: jenn joy gallery
in san francisco, 2000
for the series "the anatomy of touch", each painting was inspired by one of the 5 senses (as explained by a series
of 1950's model kits for children), and one of the 5 vowels (as seen through arthur rimbaud's system of assigning
a color to each of the vowels).
a vowel was given an equivalent sense; and each painting was informed by the vowel's corresponding color, as well as information contained in the model kit's instructions and the shape of the model pieces that made up that particular sense. the attempt was to find poetic and visual fuel within seemingly didactic science kits - and to allow that poetry to fuel various paths of image building.
